Sublimation Printing for Team Apparel & Branded Merch
Sublimation printing is a digital print method that infuses dye directly into fabric using heat and pressure. Instead of sitting on top of the garment, the ink becomes part of the material itself. This makes sublimation ideal for polyester-based apparel, activewear, and promotional products where durability, comfort, and colour vibrancy matter.
At The Colour Cartel, we use sublimation printing to create lightweight, breathable garments with bold, long-lasting colour. It is especially popular for sportswear, event apparel, and full-coverage designs that need to withstand regular wear and washing.
How Sublimation Printing Works
Every sublimation project begins with a digital design. Your artwork is printed onto specialised sublimation paper using sublimation inks that are designed to react to heat.
The printed paper is then placed onto the garment or product and pressed under high heat and pressure. During this process, the ink turns into a gas and bonds directly with the polyester fibres of the fabric. Rather than forming a layer on top, the ink becomes embedded into the material.
Once pressed, the print is permanent. It will not crack, peel, or fade over time. Each item is then checked to ensure colour accuracy, clarity, and overall print quality before it is ready to wear or use.

Sublimation for Apparel, Clothing & Promotional Products
Sublimation works best on light-coloured polyester or polyester-coated materials, including:
- Sports jerseys and activewear
- High-movement workwear
- T-shirts, singlets, and leggings
- Event and promotional apparel
- Polyester tote bags, banners, and accessories
It is a popular choice for brands, teams, and events that want bold designs with maximum comfort and longevity.
Love this company! I always get them to do our corporate merch because their quality is awesome and they work to tight timelines. Chloe and the team are super organised and great to deal with.
