Range of embroidery thread colours for branded apparel and merch

Embroidery for Custom Apparel & Accessories

Embroidery is a classic, high-end method for adding logos and designs to clothing, apparel, and accessories. At The Colour Cartel, we combine modern CAD technology, programmable embroidery machines, and our skilled team to produce precise, durable, and professional results.

Whether it’s corporate apparel, team uniforms, fashion pieces, or promotional merch, embroidery gives your products texture, depth, and a premium finish that other methods can’t match.

How Embroidery Works

Embroidery uses thread stitched into the fabric to create detailed, hard-wearing designs. Here’s the process in four simple steps:

Design Digitisation

Your artwork is converted into a digital embroidery file using CAD or specialised software. This allows our machines to replicate your design with precision.

Fabric Preparation

The garment or item is hooped securely to keep the fabric taut during stitching.

Stitching

Thread colours are carefully selected, and the machine stitches the design according to the digital file. Multiple items or complex designs are reproduced consistently.

Quality Control

Excess threads are trimmed and each item is inspected to ensure flawless results.

Embroidery Specifications

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)

10 units per design layout.

This minimum order quantity covers the digitising process required to prepare each embroidery file, including stitch mapping, density adjustments, thread sequencing, and machine setup. Once created, the embroidery file can be reused for future orders.

Maximum Colours

Up to 12 thread colours per design

Embroidery uses coloured threads rather than ink, allowing designs to be built using multiple thread colours.

For the best result, embroidery designs are generally simplified into bold shapes and clear details rather than highly detailed artwork.

Maximum Stitch Area

Maximum image footprint 27cm by 27cm

This size print area fits all standard garments: hoodies, tees, and so on. For oversized designs and all-over printing, we use sublimation printing instead.

Print Placement Options

Front chest: Left or right pocket

Full front: Across the chest panel

Back: Upper back directly underneath the collar line

Full back: Spans the entire rear panel

Sleeves: Horizontal prints or vertical typographic down either sleeve

Thread Options & Specialty Finishes

<strong>Standard Thread</strong>

Standard Thread

Embroidery creates a premium, textured finish by stitching coloured threads directly into the fabric. The raised texture adds depth and durability, making it a popular choice for uniforms, workwear, hats, and branded apparel.

<strong>3D Puff Embroidery</strong>

3D Puff Embroidery

3D puff embroidery uses a foam layer beneath the stitching to create a raised, three-dimensional effect.

This finish is most commonly used on structured caps and bold lettering, adding extra depth and making logos stand out with a premium, tactile finish.

<strong>Custom Patches</strong>

Custom Patches

Custom patches offer a versatile alternative to direct embroidery and can be applied to a wide range of garments and accessories. We can produce embroidered, woven, printed, leather-look, PVC, chenille, and other specialty patch styles, depending on the finish you're after.

Patches are ideal for fashion brands and uniforms, creating a premium, retail-inspired look.
